:: A Dark and Dreary Day ::
It is so dark and rainy out today! It keeps the temps down, but it just looks so depressing! We don’t really have a whole lot going on around here today. We’re stuck in the house because my husband’s car is in the shop, and he had to take mine to work today. That’s OK though, I don’t really like dragging Jordan out in the rain anyway.
I don’t think that I mentioned that my husband, at the age of almost 35, is going through some sort of mid-life crisis. As long as I have know him, which is about 11 years, he has always driven a truck. Trucks just “fit” him - KWIM? Well, a couple of weeks ago he called me and told me that he’d found some awesome deal on a Corvette. This is some anniversary, special model, blah, blah, blah…. That’s what it sounded like to me, because I am just not a “car” person. As long as it’s a decent car, and it works, it’s fine with me! Well, he already had some special edition Super Sport truck that he just “had to have!” So he wanted me to trade my Trail Blazer in on the Corvette and drive his truck. I told him I didn’t want to drive a truck! It’s an extended cab, but still not very convenient for carrying groceries and stuff. I tried to talk him out of the car, partly because it’s just not him, and partly because the payment was going up quite a bit. The Corvette is a 2003, so it’s not like it’s new, but still, those cars are not cheap.
Well, long story short, he bought the car. Of course all the guys at work love it, and he gets comments on it everywhere he goes. We have yet to go out in it as a family, and you know why? Because there’s no where for Jordan to sit!! See… not very practical for a family - he doesn’t think about things like that! Anyway, he went out yesterday morning to go to work, and the steering wheel wouldn’t turn, and there was some kind of warning light on. So he calls the Chevrolet dealership, and apparently there was some kind of factory recall, and the computer in the car needs to be “updated.” So, they send a tow-truck to come get the car so they can fix it. Luckily it is a factory recall, because it won’t cost us anything to have it fixed. Since it’s a 2003, of course it’s not under warranty anymore. See, there again, he didn’t think about that either! And you know it can not be cheap to have work done on a Corvette! MEN!! Sometimes they just don’t use their noodles! OK, now that I have vented that frustration….
Check out the items I added to Scrapbookgraphics yesterday:
Remember the old door I told you about? Well, I got few pics of the “before” state of it yesterday. Look at the ornate carvings!

Here’s what the whole door looks like

The glass is missing, and I will have to scrape off all of the paint. I know, considering the age of the door, that the paint probably has lead in it, and I can’t have that in the house with Jordan. The paint pretty much just falls off though, so it shouldn’t be that much work. I have no idea what exactly what I’m going to do with it. Phil told be to put glass back in it and do the Gallery Glass - you know, the fake stained glass stuff.
OK, onto the freebie for today. Since it’s so dark and dreary here, it has me in a Fall mood. Fall is my favorite season. I just love all the colors in the leaves and the cooler weather. So, today’s freebie is a sampler of Elegant Harvest. I will be adding this set over at Scrapbookgraphics in the next couple of days.

HERE is the link to download the freebie. PLEASE DO NOT SHARE THIS LINK! Love please??

Thanks you for the lovely freebies. The door will be beautiful when you finish it. Please use a mask when removing the old paint. If it has lead in it you do not need to breath without a mask to protect you. Looking forward to seeing the finished results.

First of all, thank you for sharing such nice items. It’s fun to come check and see what is up for the day! Juat wanted to mention that, when you sand down the door, please wear a mask and googles! The lead dust could harm you also! But it is a beautiful door and will look neat when you are done.!

That door is beautiful, would definately put some stainned glass in it. It’s going to look great when it’s finnished.
Men what can you say!! I think they all go thru that stage. My hubby is 45 and is going thru it. And you just can’t reason with them, LOL. I hope it gets better for both of us.
Thank you for the beuatiful freebie. I love purple.

Wow! Thanks for the freebies!! The window project turned out amazing!!
I agree with the PP about the door. Lead dust is much more harmful than chips, and you don’t want to track the dust indoors after you scrape the door. Be careful, oK?

Beautiful kit! Thank you for sharing. Your husband needs a clue-by-four upside the head. Buying a new vehicle is not the kind of thing you do without discussing it thoroughly with your significant other and *agreeing* to buy it. I’d be livid if I were you. The door is just beautiful! As someone else mentioned, the dust is worse than the paint, so be sure you wear a mask or respirator when you clean it.

GEEEE ORGEOUS colors! Just love that purple! Thanks so much. And that door is just as gorgeous. I know the wood will probably be so gorgeous on its own. May be look into doing some lead glass window embellishments. They really aren’t that expensive and its not hard to put together really… especially for someone like yourself who’s good with making things. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Thanks so much for the freebie!

WOW!!! Ok I have to admit… I’ve been not downloading too much freebie wise as of late…since I’m down to only 2GB of space left on my HD… I need to really go through my PC and clean it up a bit… anyways, sorry off the subject at hand, lol… but… I absolutely HAD to HAVE todays freebie you have up for offer. It is gorgeous!!! I love the colors in it… they are to die for… so rich and vibrant. THANKS so much!!! Fabulous!!! Shawna
PS I wanted to say I KNOW I would LOVE your house… You are doing some of the exact things I was planning on doing. I bought about 5 of those windows out of an old house… not exactly like yours but similar. I am having my DH paint 2 of my favorite Photographs I’ve taken onto 2 of them and I was thinking of using the others for scrapped pages… and I have to say I was nervous about the idea… but you have proved I can do it!!! I LOVE THEM!!! and your huge Inspire in the middle… Absolutely GORGEOUS!!! And OMG I LOVE that door, what an AWESOME find that was… I definitely can’t wait to see how it turns out. Fabulous Job on them! TFS!!!

Awesone door Traci! Where do you f ind these things? No, no, no you silly girl! It’s not a special anniversary something or there.. blah blah blah…. It is probably a silver anniversay special edition collectors item! beautiful! What a truck guy wants with it is beyond me… I can relate though… my DH.. 45 always a “dads” car guy since I have known him (15years) now is drooling over the new Charger… nit as much $$ as the vette; but, still more than we need to spend. Even though he is painfully aware of this, I still can’t help have the feeling that one day he is foing to come home with it…. back to the “glory days” ya know!

Thanks for the fall kit. Love the colors. Hang in there. Unfortunately, a mid-life crisis can reoccur over and over again. Men typically buys sports cars when they go through one, and women usually change careers, go back to school, or take up digital scrapbooking.

Traci, guys are funny, and it happens at any age. My husband was “older” when he bought his “corevette boy toy” and the model he bought was also really old (looked like crap and needed alot of work). It had already fallen apart many times and naturally had no warranty. I was thrilled as you can imagine. But he got it for a great price (I’m making a sarcastic face now) and decided that it would be “his” summer car. Since he’s has a background as a licenced mechanic and still has “friends” in the business, he figured it would “be okay” he said to me. Have you ever seen a 40 something, 6 foot, 200++ man (we won’t deal with the weight thing right now) skqoosh himself into a wee little sports car? Are you laughing yet?? Says it all. Here’s the best part (NOT). As a result, we can’t list our son (teenager) on our insurance as a secondary driver because we now have “TOO MANY VEHICLES” according to our insurance laws! So don’t get me started on this topic. Now the kid has to pay 3 times the amount he could have paid. I not kidding!! Grrrrrr!
Thank you for the really nice freebie again today.
BTW - does your insurance increase on that vehicle also because they catagorize it as a sports car and based on the year? Anal? Did i say that? What? I need get a calm-me-down pill now. Ooooooooh - man. So forget about it all and take it easy. Like me LOL. Everything will be fine.

I was able to buy my first brand new car after his dealth and look at it as a gift from him Not a Vet! It was a 2002 black convertible Toyota Solera and I love it!
Anyway thank you for the sampler!

Thanks for the great freebie…….love the colors. I must comment about dream cars. My husband wants a Hudson convertible so bad he can taste it. He has found only 1 in the last 40 years, chased the car down to talk with the owner and then came away without his telephone number!!!! I keep encouraging but all he can see is the dollar signs. He is so conservative he won’t pursue his dream. Do they give youth serum shots?

I also can’t wait to see what you decide to do with that wonderful wood carved door. I like your idea of stained or leaded glass. Have you ever done glass etching? I really think you’d love the look you could create for the door. It’s just an idea for you to consider. I am sure whatever you do will look great like all your other projects.
