Just kidding! Believe me, I may have a knack for decorating, but cooking ain’t really my thang – LOL! Don’t get me wrong, I can cook, and my family is well fed, but it’s not really something I enjoy as much as say, designing or scrappin’ a layout. I mentioned in yesterday’s post that Jordan and I were making iced sugar cookies. Well, coincidentally, I got the recipe for the cookies and the royal icing from Martha’s website. I even watched the video of her making the icing and putting it on the cookies. Trust me – it ain’t as easy as she makes it look!

I had no problem with the making the dough, rolling them out, and baking them. I didn’t have any problem making the icing either. What I had a problem with was getting it on the cookies! I don’t have pastry bags (I mean, I don’t like to cook that much, so why would I need them, right?) What I did have was one of the press style cake decorating sets. I tried to use it to ice the cookies, but it just wasn’t working to well. Then I just started using a spatula to put it on. That worked OK, but I didn’t get the smooth finish I was hoping for.

Jordan did most of the decorating.  I had to add beads and sugar to some of them. She was more interested in eating whatever didn’t land on the cookies! Her whole mouth was green and red by the time we were done – not to mention her hands and fingers where she was picking everything up – LOL! It came off her face pretty easily, but it’s took some scrubbing to get those fingers clean. All in all, they turned out just fine – just not as pretty as I had hoped.

Here’s Jordan rinsing her hands off in the sink. If you look past her, you will see all the flour that she “magically” spread all over the entire counter for me! Wasn’t that sweet of her? What a mess! It was everywhere – even in the silverware drawer! 

Here are the finished cookies. They’re tasty and they’re not “too pretty” to eat – LOL!
