I would like to thank all of you for your advice on the raccoons. We took up all of the food and water 5 days ago, but they still keep coming back. Last night I heard Rocky outside in the yard raising Cain! I went our on the deck, and it was a mess! Baskets turned over, two broken flower pots, small trash can (which we do not use for food) turned over! And there’s Rocky barking his head off at a tree! LOL! Obviously he had one of them up in a tree. I was hoping that taking the food up would make them go somewhere else.

So now, we have to keep the dogs locked in the house at night. They have a doggy door in the basement, and they’re used to just coming and going as they please. Now I’m starting to worry about the raccoons finding the doggy door and making themselves at home in the basement! I know they are super smart, and I wouldn’t put it past them.

Did you all see the new items I put in the Scrapbookgraphics store yesterday? These are super versatile element packs, and I think you’ll find yourself using them for all sorts of layouts.

I shared the Queen of Heart a couple of days ago, so I thought I’d do a King to go the Queen. Hope you like him!

So cute Traci…thanks. I’m off now to the store because I wasn’t able to make it over yesterday to pick up your new things!!

Yikes! You might have to call animal control or an exterminator. Cruel, but your family comes first. I had to evict (that’s a nice term for what happened to them) a family of squirrels from our house. Once they get food or nest somewhere, it’s home for life! And, thanks for the cards.

Oooops, was going to say, we caught our sweet corn thief, racoon, in a live trap that was baited with a whole fresh egg, and dh let him out about 10 miles away…a couple of miles away from any other farms. If you have a family of them you might want to call animal control, if you have that available….they WILL figure out a doggie door…and so can an opossum..we found!!

So glad you made the king, thank you for sharing it.

Oooh! so cute! Any chance you might do a joker, too? (I have 3 little jokers living at my house! lol!!)

We’ve always been afraid of critters finding a doggie door, too, but here’s a couple of ideas to consider:
~ If your dogs aren’t too big in size, they do make an electronic doggie door that is triggered by something the dogs wear on their collar. The last time I checked into this option, they were mostly sized for cats, but it’s worth looking at.
~ What we’re finally going to do this spring (because we have not only had raccoons on our deck, but also oppossums, foxes, otters, and who knows what else? And we’re inside city limits!) is to install a regular doggie door, but control the area to which it exits. That is, we’re basically going to buy an enclosed dog run (chain link fence on all sides, and top). It’s not the ideal situation, but it is better than no dog door at all. My husband has never lived in a dwelling with a dog door, and I keep telling him it is worth the money it will take. I’ve lived in a house and townhouse with dedicated dog door (and fenced yard), and it was so different than having to take the dogs out constantly. Anyway, just wanted to share, since we’ve had to consider the critter issue, too!
    Thanks again!

    Traci
I agree with the comments that suggest calling animal control. A neighbor had them get in their attic and one died in their bathroom wall. That meant they had to tear out the wall to have it removed, more repairs to the roof and attic and getting rid of the smell. You could try and trap them yourselves but on the off chance it is diseased, I wouldn’t want to bother. Also they have been known to come back… I knew of one that traveled over 20 miles to return.

    Great funky cards! thanks!
I agree with the others, if you’ve taken in the dog food almost a week ago and the raccoons are still hanging around, then you should call animal control. Someone else probably has food out in the area that they are eating. They will come in the doggie door if they find it. My parents had a mama raccoon build a nest and have her babies in their chimney- freaked my sister out to hear them scritching around in the stove pipe down in the basement next to her room! Animal control had to come and remove them- they were tearing up the roof using it as a highway between the neighbor’s house behind them (who was feeding them on purpose) and the lake on the other side.

Thanks for the cute queen and king! Yikes on the raccoons! Do you have an animal control officer in the area? I wonder if they would come capture them and release them somewhere else? Or a Game and Fish Department maybe?
