:: Bad Mommy! ::
Well, I’m really not a bad mommy, despite what Jordan may tell you - LOL! But I sure did feel one yesterday. I had to take Jordan to get her shots so she can start kindergarten in the Fall. I didn’t tell her that’s what we were going for, I just told her it was a check-up for her to get ready for school. You see, my child has this unnatural fear of needles and shots! I still can not figure out where it comes from because she’s never had a bad experience with them. All I can think is that is stems from her Daddy, who is the same way.
So anyway, she was doing fine, watching a movie they had playing on the TV in the waiting room. Then a nurse comes out and gives me information pamphlets for each of the shots that she was going to be getting. You know, what they’re for and any after effects we might see. Well she mentioned that two of them would be in one shot. Jordan heard the word and immediately asked me if she was going to have to get a shot. Of course I couldn’t lie to her at that point, and I told her yes, that she had to have them to start “big girl” school. Well, here came the water works and the whining.
Then when they called us back a few minutes later she really started crying! I felt soooo bad! The nurse was very understanding, and tried to calm her down, but nothing was working at that point. I told her to just go ahead and get it over with. So while I had her in a bear hug, the nurse gave her two shots in one arm and one in the other. She calmed down pretty quickly after it was over with. I told her she wouldn’t have to have anymore shots for a long time - 6 years, not that it helped that much.
So we took all of her records to the school when we left there, and she is now registered to start kindergarten! When I was working, and she was in a preschool, every morning was an ordeal to get her dressed and to school. She seems excited about starting “big girl” school, but that will probably change once she actually has to start! I think she’s more excited about riding the school bus, even though I’ve already told her she won’t be riding the bus because we only live 1/2 mile from the school!

OK, so how many of you watched the season finale of Grey’s Anatomy last night? What is up with Meredith? Has she lost her mind? Was she deprived of oxygen too long in the water? I can’t believe she’s gonna end it with McDreamy - at least that how it seemed to me. And poor George! What’s he gonna do now? On a side note, is it just me or has he turned into quite a hottie this season? He needs to dump Callie and go with Izzy. Alex… well Alex just does what Alex does. I don’t even know what to say about Burke and Christina. He says he loves her, but expects her to make all the compromises! He’s just a little too self righteous for me! Oh well, now we have to wait three months to see how everything turns out! I hate season finales - LOL!

Oh I do remember those shot days and I have to say I am glad to be thru them! lol
Hey back in the dark ages when I was a kid we used to get our shots at school. We had to line up in the Hall and wait our turn. All the while listening to other kids scream their heads off. Scared the woo hoo out of us at the end of the line!

I think a fear of a needle puncturing the skin and injecting a fluid is quite natural!! Thanks for the Grey’s summary. I admit, I havent watched since I had to choose between it and CSI. I may be the only household without tivo. Honestly, I’m kinda hoping they write Burke out and get rid of him. I don’t like the actor or his character.
Have a happy weekend!!! Thanks for the treat.

So don’t worry, you’re only being a responsible mom!
As to needles and shots - who likes them?? I was one of the kids they almost had to physically hold down so that I could have them - still don’t like them, but I don’t hold any grudges towards mom for holding me down and ignoring my cries

Lovely colors on the Jungle Floral kit. Thank you!
I think you are a good mom. A bad mom wouldn’t get her child the shots. I remember once being so brave about my son getting a shot until the nurse said I needed one, too. I don’t like shots either.

Traci, reminds me of the time the nurse gave two of the same very strong shots to one of my sons by accident. (There were two differrent shots for each kid, but she goofed). He was okay, but it was not fun. When we went back another day to get the right shot my son ran outside and we had to literally chase him around the parking lot.

You are not a bad mommy, you just want to prolong the inevitable moment that you know is coming! Nothing wrong with that.
However, because my son is so horrible at the doctor, I have been telling him now for months that he will get shots, and yes, it will hurt, but the pain will go away shortly and he can have bandages. He still doesn’t want them, but I he knows they are coming.
Awesome photos of Jordan, as usual.
Thanks for the sampler.

Poor Jordan….my dd was the same way. Still to this day, when you mention shots she still freaks…and she’s almost 17! You know whats ironic….she wants to be a nurse! lol!!!
Grey’s was disappointing to me! It ended as if the show had ended. What a drag it was and callie is now the chief….yal right! It was terrible! We’ll wait to see who’s coming back next season. They left it kind of wide open!
Have a great weekend!

Hi Traci! Just wanted to let you know, I was just like your daughter - from birth onward, lol. I am 46yo now and I STILL hate needles, lol! Though I don’t whine and cry (publicly), I can’t stand to see a needle coming near me and have a hard time going to get my monthly bloodwork done.
The trick that worked for me, and for my nephews, was for Mom to not even mention needles and tests and let it be a surprise just before the doctor’s visit was over, you know an “oh by the way we need to…” moment. That way it wasn’t nearly as overwhelming as it could have been.
But I truly feel Jordan’s pain, lol!
Have a great day and big hugs,
Kim

Thank you so much for this, it looks like a fun mini-kit to play with. Grey’s Anatomy drove me nuts last night, especially since I’ve heard rumors that a cast member (besides Kate Walsh) won’t be returning. Hopefully it’s not George. I’m the opposite with the George/Izzy thing. Izzy has bugged me so much this season I wish she’d get over herself. She was so in love with Denny and then suddenly she’s so in love with George. It seems like she should try being on her own for a bit. Then again, I really adore Callie.

shots are no fun for anybody
I felt so bad for Brenna a couple of weeks ago- she had her 4yr checkup and I told her she wouldn’t have to get any shots at this appointment (she had just watched her younger sister get 2 the day before at her checkup). Turns out I was wrong- I felt awful! They keep adding more boosters to the lineup. I guess I shouldn’t say one way of the other beforehand any more. She did great though.
My 11 yr old has to get another TDAPb booster before school starts next year, that’s new too.
Thanks for the freebie!

Your not a bad Mommy! The nurse should have NEVER said shots. I am a pediatric nurse and I NEVER use the “s” word in front of any child until it’s time to actually do the job. She could have given you the forms after the fact!
On to Grey’s! I am so glad to see another scrapper involved in Grey’s. I did not like last nights show. I thought it was like they were just rushing to end it for the season. Yeah there’s a cliff hanger or two, but it would have been nice to have been able to come away excited for next season. You know they do have a spin off for Addison starting this fall, hmmmmmmmmm. Well, enough rambling. Thanks for the great job you did on this kit!

Thank you! Great colors in the sampler. As far as shots go…our Dr uses something called Polar Bear Juice that makes the injection sight cold and somewhat numb before the shot. My kids love this part of the shot experience and now they don’t mind getting shots. Kind of strange but it works. And you are a good mommy despite what your daughter might think

Thanks for this awesome freebie…tell Jordan our little one we just adopted from China had to have all her immunizations REPEATED - so she had to get 6 in one day! Then a month later, she had to get 4 more - and I promise you she knew the minute we stepped into that room what was happening even though she’s only 2! Talk about a Mom who felt bad!!
PS. Unsolicited Mom advice - Never tell your kids they won’t have to get shots for a long time…I did that, and it came back to haunt me several times! My son cut himself soonafter and had to get a tetanus, and then another time a new vaccine was required because we moved close to the border of Mexico…you never know when a shot will pop up…asthmatics…allergies…all that stuff… not to wish it on ya… but Jordan will remember you said that!

Thank you, Traci, for another great mini kit. I remember when my sister was little (I’m 10 years older) and was in the hospital with pneumonia. In those years she got a penicillin shot every day for 21 days. She was really traumatized. I never told my kids before the fact they were going to get a shot. That’s the best. Thanks so much for the cute sampler. I’m glad Jordan made it through her shots ok. I used to be the same way only much worse. My mother is a retired RN, and it would take her AND the office nurse to hold me down. The doctor learned to use big words like hypodermic; if I needed a shot, or hemoglobin; when he saw blood in my ear for our yearly swimmers ear infections. With that one though my mother made a big mistake by taking my older brother in with us. He was watching it all, and said “Ooooh BLOOD!” Well….I screamed and the fight was on! After all, to me blood meant death! *LOL* I can laugh about it now, but my poor mother! How she ever survived, and the storis we can tell! I wish I had pictures of it all. For someone who doesn’t journal that much, they would make some great LO’s.

Thank you for the wonderful kit! I’m SO lucky. My DS has always been good about getting his shots, even when he was a baby — he used to cry for maybe 10 seconds and that was that! He’s 7 now, and at his checkup, he had to get a flu shot. DH didn’t know he was going to get one, so he felt bad that he hadn’t warned him ahead of time, but luckily he did fine.
I can’t wait to hear about Jordan’s first day of school! Even though my child was always in daycare, I cried when I left him in his classroom. Almost didn’t make it out of there without crying! I think all my sisters and friends cried on their child’s first day of Kindergarten.

Jordan has probably forgotten all about it, but not you, you will never forget, thats what good moms do. It always will hurt you more than them.
And it continues thru life, when my daughter gave birth, I had pushed more than she did. I’ll never be in the room again, when one of my kids give birth.
I know how JOrdan feels about the needle thing, its just now got so its not so bad. One time the nurse kicked me under the table to get me to relax so she could give me the shot.
Your a great mom, so never forget that.

Don’t ya just hate subjecting your kids to pain even if you know it is for their own good? How can you explain that to a kid so they can understand? I hate it!
Thanks for the cool freebie, Traci!

I told DH with my little boy that he would be the one taking him in for shots because I hated it with DD… he hasn’t done a single set. Not fair.

So sorry to read about your experience in the doctor with Jordan. It’s something it makes you feel bad, but It’s not that bad it’s just a moment and you know it’s for their own good. So I hope the worst of it has gone away.
I’m not sure whether this will be of any use but I have always been encouraged not to look at the needle or the nurse when they are in the middle of the shoot as you feel it less. In fact you almost don’t feel anything. But trying to encourage a child to that, might be difficult.
Anyway you can try in case of need, to see if it works.
About Grey’s Anatomy, I’m living in Ireland and it just started the second sesson so I’m very interested in hearing all the stories that have happened in the series 2 and 3, any blog anywhere. :D. Oh forget it, I know you are going to tell me to wait and watch.
Anyway thanks a million for the freebie, the papers are really beautiful and really nice.
Best wishes and have a good weekend. :o)

First of all, sorry my mistakes I don’t speak English well .
You are a good mom !!! I think that the nurse would have to come back toward the school to learn to deal with a child .
Tracie I understand Jordan perfectly , because I don’t have fear of needles and shots … I have PANIC.
Yesterday I was talking about my panic with one of the nurses who take care of mine mom (she has Alzeimer), the nurse had said that never had seen nobody with as much fear as I and I said: “I think that I was born with this fear” .
Thanks so much for the freebies , I loved .

Ouch….I don’t know who to feel more sorry for, you or Jordan!! Don’t beat yourself up for not mentioning the shots! I know she has to be excited about starting kindergarten! My daughter has been teaching kindergarten for 5 years and she says the children just love it! Some do have separation anxiety, but I have a feeling that won’t be Jordan!!
Jungle Floral is just beautiful…thanks so much for sharing!!

Thank you for the awesome freebie Traci.
Jordan will get over the shots…lol…
I always tell my kids they are going for shots but only because to them it’s no big deal. My kids are 8 and 4. My 4 year old just got his chicken pox shot in February…piece of cake..lol.. But I think you did the right thing…otherwise you’d never have got her in there.
