What a Vacation…

We got back from our week long vacation yesterday, and I had to take a day to recover – lol! The whole family went, with the exception of my poor husband who is still in Iraq, but he only has 56 days until his contract is up and he’ll be home for good! My mother in-law and father in-law went, along with my husband’s sister, her husband and their three year old son.

We rented a condo at Hilton Head Island, and it was pretty nice, but it was a hike to get to the beach. Even though the resort was ocean front, our condo was at the end of the building – the farthest from the beach. We’d never been there before, and we’re so used to going to Myrtle Beach, where “ocean front” is really ocean front! Hilton Head is a lot more sedate than Myrtle Beach, but I swear – you can’t find anything down there! They have some sort of sign ordinance, and all the signs are small and low to the ground, so by the time you can see them, you’re past whatever you were looking for. It doesn’t help that everything is hidden behind a wall of palm trees!

My daughter just loves the beach – she always has. My nephew on the other hand has not been since he was a baby, and it was all pretty unfamiliar to him. My daughter is 7, and he is 4, so they are just far enough apart in age to mix like oil and water! Imagine spending a week with the constant bickering – especially in the evenings when they started getting tired! She wants to be the boss, and he won’t have it! Heck, he doesn’t even want his parents bossing him around – lol! Every five minutes it was, “Weeve me awone!” That’s “Leave me alone!” for those of you that don’t speak Loganese!

We did all have a good time though, despite the exhausting child bickering! My father-in-law actually got my daughter out in the waves to boogie board! She’s played in the waves before, but she’s always getting the salt water in her face (not that I can blame her.) He got her out there and within half an hour, she was all in those waves – face and all! She’s quite the little swimmer, so water has no fear factor for her. Here is a sequence of photos that I took of her boogie boarding – from finding a wave to wiping out – lol

Here’s a sweet photo of Jordan and Logan.

Don’t let this fool you though – 10 seconds after this was taken, they were screaming at each other, and Logan was pouting!

Here’s a great photo of Jordan and I. We have so few of us together, because I’m usually the one behind the camera!

So, vacation is over, and it’s good to be back home. The dogs missed us like crazy, even though we had a pet sitter come three times a day. I can’t believe Summer is almost over! Jordan will be going into second grade in just 12 days! Back to reality… sigh!
